Clinical Overview
* Red and swollen conjunctiva. In infection or allergic conjunctivitis, both eyes usually affected.

* Rabas is a characteristic purulent bacterial conjunctivitis. Infection and rabas often starts in one eye and spreads to the other eye. The eyes may be closed by a membrane greenness.
* Watery and clear Rabas is characteristic of viral conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis often accompanies viral upper respiratory infection.
* The heat and itching of the eye is a characteristic of allergic conjunctivitis.
* Conjunctivitis due to foreign body is associated with discomfort and feeling like there is sand or fine gravel in the eye. Usually with a foreign object, only one eye is affected.
Diagnosis
* Diagnosis after history and physical examination. Cultures may be necessary in some circumstances.
* Foreign body in the eye must be visualized by using a special lamp, called a Wood's lamp.
Complication
* Certain bacterial infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia konjungtivitas some kind) and viral infections can cause permanent damage to the eye if not treated.
* Foreign body in the eye can cause corneal abrasion and the formation of scar tissue.
* Konjungtivitas can be early symptoms of severe systemic disease, which is Kawasaki disease.
